leased you are partly correct. I don't think anyone knows the exact date the Taliban came into existance, but they only became a recognizable force AFTER the war against the Russians.
It was the Taliban who brought the warlords together in the aftermath of the Russian war and established an Afghan government.
The Americans funded some Afghan groups during the war, some of whom would have evolved later into the Taliban.
