Excellent post. That provides a good explanation of why the government didnt feel the detailed environmental impact assessment (DEIA) wasn't really necessary and the preliminary environmental impact assessment (PEIA) was legally and scientifically adequate and sufficient.
Someone with signup priviliges should post this in the comments section to the malaysian news media articles which claim that the process was "secretive" and the public was not allowed to participate, and throw some cold water on their arguments.
Then again, maybe best not to stir the pot over there.
