In a half-ass@d attempt to stay on topic... I rank BKL as a modern day "blue-chip". (For what value that term has).
I don't pretend to yet have your ability to fully and accurately analyse the annual accounts of a company so Cam and Rosyoutlook I, and I am sure many others would be very interest in your read on todays Blackmores result.

Back on topic; my very first investments in shares some 20 years ago included 3 so called Blue Chips. Boral, Pacific Dunlop and National Bank - you don't have to have a great grasp on history to imagine how that went.
I think it's an "easy" term for the financial media to toss about. As I have slowly become a better informed investor I now look for good management of a good company and a value entry point.

Cam and Rosyoutlook, at the risk of blowing smoke... both of your posts add great value to this site and have helped myself, and undoubtedly others come to a better understanding of a number of companies and some of the indicators of value. Thanks guys.
