I've kind of ignored it before because i thought you must be joking. Apparently not.

All those things are based on statistics GC. Statistics by definition are from data from the past and they tell you things about how likely something is to occur. It isn't a crystal ball, but it can tell you how likely a particular event is to occur. Some people use that information to learn from their mistakes and get better at what they do. Those people tend to make a lot money from the other people that keep belting themselves on the noggin over and over again thinking that what has gone on before has no predictive value about what might happen next.
