There is also another way of looking at this.

To get to the same amount and grade of enriched Uranium using laser enrichment technology, as what centrifuge produces from a given amount of feedstock now, then the laser enrichment does it far cheaper, but there is still more uranium in the tails that haven't been removed before due to cost, at this point it is considered uneconomic to further treat the feedstock to get that extra Uranium out using older tech, but that may no longer be the case with laser enrichment, it may now be economical enough to further treat the tails and gain extra enriched Uranium, it may mean that to get the extra Uranium out using laser enrichment, that this further treatment costs a bit more ? but so what? they get the additional enriched Uranium for basically nothing, except for the extra Enrichment costs.
