Thanks DDzx, that answers my question very clearly.

    Mistyrains,
I am a novice trader, I have just completed my first year trading, and need to do my tax return.
I am a PAYG employee, but trade regularly, methodically, and take short term positions.

I have asked ATO to determine whether I am a trader or an investor, once decided I can do my tax return, I am awaiting their decision.

An investor with CGT has more simple tax rules (IMHO) then a trader with a raft of rules/options etc.

I beleive I am a trader, but will let the ATO decide.
