"why a suspension? why not a trading halt extension? must be doubt as to timing?"

If you read the ASX rules on trading halts and voluntary suspensions you will see that a trading halt extension for another two days is an option but if the company expects they cannot make the announcement within the 2 days or 4 days in the case of an extension then they need to ask for a voluntary suspension. Clearly they originally expected they could make the announcement before trading opened this morning (as they said in the original request) but now they have realised things are going to take longer than expected to happen in order to make the announcement. It could be as simple as they misjudged how long things would take, or it could be that some new hurdle has got in their way. You won't know until the announcement comes out.

For those holders, hopefully it's just taking longer than expected. In the end I'd assume it's going to work out, given as someone pointed out, the govt just seemed to have announced they are even more open for business than before.
