Anyone else feel like their cinema operations are getting increasingly uncompetitive?

It didn't seem that long ago - maybe 10 years ago - that the price of a movie ticket was more or less the same wherever you went.

When I went to an event cinema chain last week I forked out $18 for an adult ticket, $6 for a coke and sat through half an hour of advertisements before the movie began.

It seems the two big chains, Hoyts and BCC, all charge these type of prices now.

In comparison another chain I go to, Cineplex, offers tickets for $8 adult, $3 for a coke, and far less advertisements.

I understand management has to squeeze as much out of the customer as they can but I feel they are overdoing it. Not withstanding the sustainability of charging your customers 200% of a competitor's price where you provide a more or less identical service to that competito , most people will not take too kindly to paying someone to watch 30 minutes of advertisements!
