I had the same about 10 years ago. A young couple split up and did a runner leaving an old wreck in driveway and a pile of unwanted items and rubbish for me to cleanup - Also being behind in the rent, I was owed about $900.
From memory I got the agent to lodge some type of court document which the agent said was a waste of time, but I insisted as it leaves a bad credit rating - from memory their was a small lodgment fee which may have well been added to the owed amount?
About a year later I was informed by the agent that the money was paid - one of them probably wanted to get a bank loan or similar, and the bad credit rating was an obstacle.
If all Landlords did the same, then these types of non payers would only ever get one chance of doing the runner!
