I tend to look at their market cap; their Directors (I have a list of what I call 'shonky' Directors); the sovereign risk e.g. I don't buy anything in South Africa; their liquidity; their website - if its a mess and out of date then so is the company more likely; activity / mentions on sites like Hot Copper.
