The S&P/ASX 300 Index represented 91% of the Australian market as of August 31, 2000. The index includes stocks in the S&P/ASX 100 and S&P/ASX 200 indices in addition to another 100 companies in the Australian market. This index provides a broad benchmark for fund managers. The S&P/ASX 300 index may not always contain 300 components. Companies removed from this index will be replaced when a suitable candidate is available from the pool of eligible companies, or at the quarterly review. At Each quarterly review, the number of companies included in the index will be reset to 300.
