Hi fatsoh, I remember reading to the effect just before or soon after the 2007 election that Rudd would be in a precarious position because he was not a member of a faction and eventually they would move on him. I discounted that at the time because Rudd was record breaking popular.
However, seems that whoever was the author(I cant recall) was right. He came off the boil a little and they went for him. A fiasco imo. The instigators were possibly driven by a sense of panic otherwise if they had half a brain they should have realised the ramifications of what they were about to do. They obviously put the pressure on the backbenchers using the factions to do do so. Incredible! Anyway its happened and Abbott remaining as Opposition leader will be Labors only chance of not getting flogged.
A return to Rudd could imo change that if Abbott remained leader but I dont think that would be the case. Malcolm Turnbull would be installed as Opposition leader and he would win.
If the government does change I hold a strong view that usually they do so with very good reason so whatever the outcome I will be comfortable with it.
cheers
