It is interesting that one of the biggest opponents to increased CCTV on public streets is the Lawyers Association.
Could it be if CCTV was to act as a detterent to crime.Lawyers would find themselves with less business to go around?
Surveilance is a part of modern life. There are very few workplaces these days without a camera watching you. There already are cctv cameras on the streets. The fact that the footage that lead to an arrest in this latest incident was from a privately owned camera,Could give credence to the argument that there are not enough strategically placed state owned cameras on the streets.
You could also add the fact that almost everyone is walking around with a camera on them,Courtesy of their mobile phones.Do you really know how many strangers have a picture of you, somewhere in the background of their snapshots. Personally,I find the argument against invasion of privacy in public places a little ironic. If the govt ever decides they want to place cameras inside my home. Then I think We'll have cause for concern.
