Anon' post is as credible as many and more than most and he is right to contemplate all the possibilities as that I imagine is what this site is all about.
There are mates in business that started at Scotch college or Melbourne Grammar or wherever and those Buds look after each other year in year out as I am sure you well know and may be one or two out there! I would say a very plausable scenario from the pen of Anon but really was there anything we could have done about it? ...oh well maybe a pet hate for some but a couple of new kids on the board may have changed the situation when RC cut his deal. I ponder how RC got the nod in the first place? like he just popped out of no where after JH got the push, nice timing!
Look Im pretty happy that we are moving ahead but have no doubt there has been dirty deeds done dirt cheap for Santos and not so cheap for the shareholders however at the moment we just have to wear it. The possible excuse is that CTP had no strength of position from which to play as the dealing was done. Then there was possibly a player or two offered more but RC probably felt Santos was the best partner for all sorts of reasons aside from money.
The share price is moving ahead slowly and phew for that though I was really hoping for a deal that started us off in the 20's at least and so were many of you who wished for more...even somewhat obsessed! I agree with Anon and IMO we should have received some cash like Buru from Mitsubishi, Karoon from COP, petrofrontier did well etc etc etc. It is what it is now and happy enough to see us at least moving ahead and I do tip my hat to RC for serving it up so soon after his appointment. The whole process has provided some demons though and think they are justified, for sure if it is the truth it will always hurt though probably no one will ever truly know!
