    Splitting hairs a bit - I think most dictionaries would use "well known" as a synonym for "famous".

    But if you are talking "rarified air", then no, I guess I don't qualify as having met or lived near anyone famous - Alice Cooper is for example, not as famous as say, the Pope or the President of the USA.

    Maybe "always famous" versus "short term famous" would knock out many "well known" candidates.
