'It is interesting, given the above link and the obvious IMO fact that some of the funding will definately go to Exergen, the public approach of the 2 Co's.'

    Hi BR

It is obvious that exergen will get whatever they want from the ALDP if the result will be Tata Power investing in the creation of a BC Pilbara in Victoria.

it is obvious because demo plant co-funding by Govt is one of the 'essential' conditions that exergen told the Vic Govt was a pre-requisite to a Tata go ahead with an investment of this scale during top level talks in Melbourne in October 2011.

Thanks to FOI and the greens we know this to be a FACT:

    http://media.crikey.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Documents-released-on-1-June-2012-Final.pdf

The key documents in this bundle released under FOI are as follows:

email exergen to the DPI dated 7/10/11 at 10:02 am:

'Please find attached a letter of appreciation we left with the Minister at yesterday's close of meeting, that also capture the points ANIL made during the various meetings re the key essential elements that will need to fit to see this come to Victoria.'

they forgot to black out 'Anil' in this document, which is very important when reading the next exergen email, where their redacting was more thorough. it is obvious that the deleted name in the below email is 'Anil' (as in Tata Power MD Anil Sardana).

email exergen to the DPI dated 7/10/11 at 4:04 pm:

'whilst there are some obstacles to go to see the demonstrator investment opportunity attracted to Victoria, yesterday's discussion had a positive impact. (Anil) will have fed back I am sure from the Minister's meeting which again (Anil) received a good understanding of the Minister's thinking, recognising he has a process in progress and his Cabinet colleagues to form a view. (Anil,) consistent with his messages to yourself could be best summarised in seeing this demonstration facility come to Victoria in his mind will be:

    * Availability of co-support funding through ETIS or other, eg Federal;

    * Confidence of a pathway to a coal resource (nominal 1 B tons)'

In the months that followed these October 2011 meetings between Victorian Resources Minister O'Brien, Federal Resources Minister Ferguson and Tata Power boss Anil Sardana both 'essential elements' identified by Tata to spend $50-100 million on an exergen CHTD demo scale plant in Victoria were put in place by the Vic and Fed Govt's.

Here is the new coal allocations ann from the DPI:

    http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/earth-resources/coal/coal-allocation

And here is the co-funding ann from the DPI:

    http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/energy/innovation-and-research/etis/advanced-lignite-demonstration-program

Note both ann's come from the same 'DPI' that received the above emails from exergen asking for EXACTLY these 2 things on Tata's behalf.

    Funny that.

If any other brown coal players want to seriously claim they are in front of the exergen/tata consortium in terms of access and influence with the Vic and Fed Govt, credibility with the Govt's and obvious capacity to deliver a brown coal pilbara to Victoria in regard to ALDP funding I am all ears.

All credible, third party, factually verifiable links are more than welcome.

But it is clear to anyone with half a brain what is going on here.
