Our grand-daughter therefore knows nuch more than an 11 year old should have to - including about the atrocities such as that inflicted on Malala Yousafzai.

She is acutely aware of the oppressive / tyrannical treatment of women and acutely aware of behaviour that denies females the same rights as males.

She was indeed upset that females in Australia would be burdened with sexist phrases such as 'handbag hit squad' - she asked me; "Why do those people who say such things hate those women so much?".

What would you have said to a very intelligent and highly sensitive 11 year old girl?

That is very sad. There are many places where women suffer from oppression by dictatorial forms of Government. Countries with Sharia Law are just some of them.

But let's not forget that there are also men and their children who have suffered from oppressive government policies in Australia.

According to Barry Williams, President of the Lone Fathers Association based in Canberra, more than $200 million a year is spent on women’s crisis services such as refuges and legal centres, ”and we support that”, but just $25 million is spent on men’s services, much of that going to agencies who provide telephone counselling.

I like Barry. He was homeless when given a medal by the Australian government. A defender of universal human rights for fathers if ever there was one.
