This idea that we are somehow "slaves" I find quite ridiculaous. I call it symbiosis. The Government depends on us for income and we depend on the Govt to keep our society safe and healthy.
That it doesn't always succeed is because we have the freedom to ruin our own health.
We comply with the Govt laws because we realise it is in our interest to do so, and paying taxes is defintely in our interest. Arguments about levels of taxes and who should pay more or less are another matter.
Who would disagree with the high taxes on unhealthy products like smokes or booze?
Who would seriously consider that any developed country had its standard of living without Govt intevention to prevent the "law of the jungle" turning us into a nation like for example, Afghanistan, with warlords and Taliban making life a misery for the common Afgani?
Anywhat I have digressed from the Tax line somewhat. But without taxes there is no Govt.
