Australians against non-UN attack on Iraq: poll
A new survey of public opinion on Australia's involvement in a potential war with Iraq shows only 6 per cent would support a conflict without United Nations endorsement.
The AC Nielsen poll published in metropolitan newspapers today said 30 per cent of Australians would not support a war with Iraq under any circumstances.
According to the poll, 62 per cent of Australians believe the nation should only be involved as part of a UN-approved attack.
The poll of 1,500 people was conducted on Tuesday night after Prime Minister John Howard announced the forward deployment of Special Air Service troops to the Middle East.
