Thanks timber, but no, I can't believe the CPI data either! I mean, just look what's happened to real estate since 1980 - oh, but they took that out of the calculation too, in 1983.

I asked the question hoping that Skol would do the calcs (using some more valid data than the official figures) and realise just how irrelevant 1980s pricing was.

For me, the only relevance now are the fundamentals of currency debasement, unrepayable debt and a huge crash in stock and bond prices round the corner.
