Rather than going for the man, how about the argument. The $US has been going down for some time, The mid west yank and oz for that matter has always been dumber than the coastie; they are just being managed better for elections. The top men in the US are international in outlook and substance and have not got all their eggs in 'basket US'. So no collapse in US but a plateauing in wealth growth. Hopefully a bit of the jam will be spread ourway.
