    I don't think it is covered by the constitution. The constitution has very little about the rights of individuals. About the only mention was aborigines not being allowed to vote!

    Ah, here it is:

    51, (xxxi) The acquisition of property on just terms from any State or person for any purpose in respect of which the Parliament has power to make laws:

    This provision relates to property altogether - so gold couldn't be confiscated either. "Just terms" shades of "The Castle" here!

    But here's one example of how the constitution is ignored:

    115. A State shall not coin money, nor make anything but gold and silver coin a legal tender in payment of debts.

    If push comes to shove te constitution will be steamrollered. Just as it is totally irrelevant in the US today.
