"Brazilian telco group Telefônica/Vivo has unveiled a new datacenter to support the IT processes of its fixed and mobile operations.
Operational since May, the 33,600m2 datacenter - the country's largest and one of the largest in Latin America -is located in the city of Santana do Parnaíba, on the outskirts of São Paulo.
The facility, which took more than two years to build, has six stories with the capacity for 1,760 racks.
TEF says it invested 400mn-reais (US$200mn) in the project, which will process and store data from over 90mn customers.
In April the company began the migration of its systems and data from four other sites - two from mobile operations and two from fixed operations. All the data will be concentrated in the new plant.
According to TEF, the migration will be gradual and is expected to be wrapped up in the first half of 2014."
The TEF/Vivo integration, which was already seeing synergies in terms of branding, stakeholder collaborators and converging products, is now merging its IT infrastructure with this new datacenter," TEF/VIVO CEO Antonio Carlos Valente said.
The facility follows "green" guidelines and has an international certification assuring its sustainability, TEF said. It is said to be the first in Latin America with Tier 3 certifications in the design and constructed facility categories. The building also reportedly has a power efficiency 25% superior to similar facilities worldwide.
