    it is embarrassing actually...
I have murray pine floors through out the house

obviously the estapol finish had worn down over the years,
there was a couple of small areas where dirt had become ground into the floor, in areas of heavy traffic....

so I gently sanded back the boards to the timber...
I spent several hours on the sanding...

then I went looking through the supply of paints used on the house, (to find the exact original product) and found a tin of estapol....

so I gave the kitchen area its first coat....
wow, it was beautiful, looked stunning, just like new
I was so proud of myself...this is a cinch, I mused
I am onto a real winner here...

I was getting really ambitious by this time....
so I sanded down some more areas, I even started nit picking and found some more spots

the following day, I wondered why the floor still looked wet, when it was dry ??????? duh

I had used a gloss, when the floor was not...I called my handyman, he said it was a satin finish...( I have news for him)

So I had to sand it all back again, and start from scratch.
Went to Bunnings, they do not stock the Wattyl products, so I bought what I thought was a clear satin estapol.

I painted this onto the larger area in the dining room...then waited the 24 hours for it to dry....
shock horror....now I have a dark teak stained area of floor

Oh my god, I have to spend hours again, sanding back that are all over again to remove the disaster...

Went to Wattyl and bought the Satin estapol.....painted it onto the kitchen floor....again it looked good...thank god for that...
but why is it still different to the original finish...
answer, the original is a matt finish.....

and guess what....I had painted the satin over the dining area....
so now, both areas need to be sanded back to timber again...plus I have other areas sanded, waiting for paint..
I have decided....it can all stay that way...until the handyman can fix it
    ................................
now for the picket fence, some posts are still in perfect condition, some posts have paint falling off....seemed odd, as if some were not treated correctly to begin with...

remember I started this project after my initial false
    success, with the kitchen floor....
I started on the gate....rubbed it down, scraped off the old paint, took me hours...then painted a base coat over that area...I had a grey base coat on hand, so no worries

then I purchased an off white spray enamel....that should have matched the fence

no worries mate....it has turned out the most horrid cream cum tangerine tint I have ever seen...
bought more off white paint.....which has dried a pure white, distinctly different to the original

so it all looks like a work in progress, for all the world to see...and it can stay that way...I am done with fixing things...
or you could suggest, I actually stuffed all the jobs

the only win I had was with the fence...in removing the rust marks, from the screws...pour, or spray, coca cola over the rust, into the screw area, wait a few minites, then the rust rubs off easy, with a stainless steel pad, or a sand paper thingy thing...
then I painted the correct type of paint over the screw area...or at least I think it was....

I did spend some time on the net, researching these jobs, and getting handyman hints and tips...

so I will revert to twiddling my thumbs, or sticking with my art painting, or weeding the garden...just simple things
it seems obvious, my older brothers got all the handyman genes, and I missed out...
hope you all get a good laugh out of this....
and if there are any other handyman disasters out there,
you too can fess up and give us all a laugh
    cheers
