EVs are not selling as expected by manufacturers so Nissan now proposes to offer cheaper version of its leaf to lift sales.
( "Nissan moves to spark electric car sales and boost fledgling sector",
    Financial Times (UK) P 17, 22 Oct 2012)
Nissan currently offers a luxury version of the Leaf @ 26K sterling after
a government subsity of 5K which is pricey for what it is.

Even after a discount of $4200 in Sept, nNissan sales of the leaf are still
below targets for 2012. "Driver range anxiety" rather than price, however,
seems to be the biggest sales deterrant and better battery recharge
networks should remedy this. Guaranteed buybacks/tradebacks would help the
    depreciation fears.
Nissan sold about 12000 Leafs to June 2012, away less than its 12 month
    target of 40,000.

A bread & butter version of the Leaf priced competively with normal cars in its size class should do the trick.

    Cheers
