I think the only reason the libs and Turnbull are not calliing for a leadership spill is that we are too far out from an election, it would be a smarter move for it to happen closer to the election and give labor less time to muster a defence.
I imagine turnbulll would be well prepared to present as a creditable alternative with policy and direction, some thing Abbott has not demonstrated. Turnbull appeals to voters as he shows vision not extreme in his views.
