AFP, I don't get too theological about these things. There are some underlying natural cycles that the ancients were perhaps aware of. In the book of Leviticus there is a seven year cycle. There are 7 x seven year cycles and then there was to be a jubilee year on the 50th year where all debts were forgiven. This sound very much to me as if the ancient Jews understood the long cycle and the debt and collapse that can come at the cycle end. They didn't mess around with "growth" and "austerity". they just hit the big reset button and got on with it. My other theory is a bit more Jungian in that certain numbers become unconscious symbols and they seem to find there way into charts regularly. these would include numbers from the bible with strong meanings.
