There seems to be so much confusion and blurred lines now about gender roles and the pendulum, which had swung way too far over to one end for centuries, seems to be swinging equally far in the opposite direction. Neither end is healthy or desirable, is it?

I, and many women I know, like a 'manly' man - sports, farts, scratching and all :) we like the good humour about our'feminine ways' and we enjoy having a laugh at the oddities of the male psyche - as long as its a celebration of our differences and not intended to be derogatory.

But when we are at work its important that gender becomes immaterial - and, unfortunately, that still isn't happening in many workplaces, Tracey Spicer's experience bears that out. This makes many women frustrated and bitter and the flow-on effect is all negative. People should be judged on their merit, their hard work and intelligence and not on gender. Sexism has no place in the office or factory floor.

Hopefully that pendulum will stop swinging so erratically and over time will return to equilibrium.
