Hi mazwegian as I have said in my earlier post there would only be a small number of people who would have a hatred of women and they are sick. Also the converse would apply.

So the literal meaning of misogyny would not apply to the non extreme poor attitude of some men towards women. However the word misogyny is being used in different way to its literal meaning just as applies to other words. Its an exaggeration for certain but such exaggerations are common place.

A man who constantly bashes his wife, partner, girlfriend may not hate women. What he is doing is he cowardly exercises his physical power to dominate and oppress them. Doesnt fully fit the literal definition of misogyny but who would blame anyone for still calling that person a scumbag misogynist. Theres no doubt that the word scumbag fully complies. So misogyny is being used in a non literal sense by some to describe attributes that treat women poorly as distinct from hatred.

IMO, due to the current controversy on misogyny, the obnoxious word has and will become more prevalent not in its literal meaning. When a male/female couple have a tiff and the male complains about anything he may well get called a misogynist. Thats what happens with language nowadays. The context in which it is used is the key.

    cheers
