real tradesmen versus newbie handyman, page-36

MY experience with tradies, is about one out of two...will do a good job, and the others are scammers...

I ask their hourly rate, and now have a good idea of how much time, plus the cost of materials are required to do the job.
I do my own costings, for the products and materials required, then allow them a margin for tradies discounts, plus a profit margin.
In fact I will get at least 2 other quotes for any job over $500 to $1000, then usually give it to my handyman, who will do it for half the price of the labour, plus the materials. He works on $50 ph labour only.

Now that I am hands on, on site and can assess the work, and their workmanship, it is so much more efficient.

I have watched some stuff up big time, and I will take them to task, as I watch them forget to bring the product or material required on site to begin the job, or take the wrong measurements, and then watch them stuff around, etc.

And they have to be kidding, if they want me to pay in excess of $100 ph for their stuff ups.

It is very different to the earlier years, when I was not on site to assess the finished job, and they knew that, only to find an inferior job done.

I like the fact, I usually have at least two other quotes, and they have to do a top job, within those quoted prices.

You would not believe some of the scams and stuff ups I have paid for in good faith, when I was absent, or could not assess the job, prior to payment.

The absent owner, or out of towner is easy money for the scammers.
    Those days are over now
