Your initial post was the polls for the two party preferred, my post was for the two party preferred results.
The poll and the results were within less than 1% of each other, which is pretty close.
It is fine if you want to expand the discussion, but lets be clear that it was not part of your initial post or my response to your post.
The 1998 elections was one of those situations where more voters voted for one political party, yet the party with less votes won the election.
This link has a table of elections going back to 1937 and includes poll comparisons to results from 1993.

The result was ALP 50.1% to 49.9% LNP, which is pretty close.
