I enjoy debating and giving a contrarian viewpoint. So Here goes and I will be brief. So I ask the proponents of the big stick or strap. Which parents are doing a better job. The ones who put enough effort to explain and convince their kids they are behaving badly and use withholding of benefits as the last recourse. OR the parents whose answer is a slap in the face or a boot up the backside whenever misbehaviour occurs?
We all know what a small minority parents do under the umbrella of discipline.Commit atrocious violence on their kids and childrens hospitals regularly have cases of kids even babies badly/severely hurt/injured by their parents. Resentment builds amongst some of such children and some run away from home and into a world where they are vulnerable and some develop a hatred that remains through their life.
Its a complex issue and simplistic generalisations one way or the other are not the answer. IMO Play2Win referring to Judge Reynolds as part of the problem is just a poorly considered dismissive line.
