Thanks for yours and mazwegians perspective. You use reasoning to back your opinions.
I note your comment about the child that went beserk at age 10 . I highlight the case of a twelve year old near me who during his preceding school years copped the cane often and his parents were happy about that and applied their own measure of corporal punishment also. Maximum well intended discipline was applied but the results were horrendous. The child became a resentful youth and went totally off the rails.
I still remember the time at school where his school headmaster applied corporal punishment with a cane. The kid exploded grabbed the cane and threw it to the floor. He then ran out of the school with the headmaster who used a walking stick, as he had a stiff leg, chased after him, calling him back and waving the walking stick wildly. Unfortunately for the headmaster the boy obliged, stopped, picked up some rocks and commenced throwing them at the headmaster. The headmaster beat a hasty retreat to the safety of the school.
The boy was then sent to a special school for problem kids where fortunately they had some highly qualified staff and they engaged in a program to change behaviour without resort to corporal punishment. This had a profound effect on this kid and he went on to live a responsible life.
I attended the same school at the time(not the special school lol) and witnessed some of the events. I was not a problem child lol. I did cop the cane from one teacher for not looking straight ahead and I resented that teacher from that point. His subject was Technical Drawing and it was optional. I pulled out end of term. Other than one other teacher all my teachers through my education were fantastic and I remember and respect them all. The only two I dont are the tech drawing teacher and a teacher in my second year of primary school who if I answered a question incorrectly would strike my knuckles continually with one of those thick wooden rulers till they went raw red. Wouldnt stop until you started to cry. Guess that accounts a lot for my views on corporal punishment.
