Eagle, I would think that Turnbull the libs ar holding off the leadership change untill closer to an election in order to give labor less time to adjust their stratergy.
I would imagine that Turnbull would have prepared stratergy and policy changes to go to the election with, they would not be vote buying but apeal to the majority that would like to see change. To this effect Turnbull only needs to come across as a crediatable alternative pm which Abbott fails to do.
I expect labor to go the full term witch would make around March next year a good time for a leadership change. If an election gets called early or suddenly there would be a quick scramble for change in the libs leadership but I expect Turnbull will be prepared.
With Turnbull leading the Libs labor may consider a return to Rudd, that would be risky but Gillard doesn't stand much of a chance against Turnbull.
Labor will be hoping Abbott leads at the next election, they have agained ground on 2pp gillard is more popular than Abbott so at this stage that have a chance and during an election campaign they would expose Abbott to scruitiny that he doesn't handle to well.
