They may not be as dopey as this mob Caver, but money talks in business and the Chinese Government are constantly reminding the world that they have a bottomless pit of readies which they are more than keen to offer to any company, mining assets of interest to them to take over,and I have no doubt that if the tie up was felt to be sound business move then the Chinese Government(through their agents) would make Barrick and offer they and their shareholders could not refuse.
All just my opinion of course and could be total bollocks:)
