Reading through the posts has been interesting and I must admit to be being very perplexed by it all – but many things perplex me lol. But at the end of the day its got to beat watching paint dry.

I might be barking up completely the wrong tree – and it doesn’t fit with the bio-materials idea - but last year the FDA did make a big move on smart-phone apps by regulating some of this area into the medical device realm.

As related to your post - a group of smart-phone apps are in fact wireless devices. For example step on to a set of bioimpedence weigh scales in your bathroom, which sends a signal to your smart-phone app, which works out who you are in the family from your weight, which transmits this to the cloud, and puts the data into a nice chart for you to track your progress in losing weight and building muscle.

Many in the industry opposed this move (not sure if P&G were in this) by the FDA for increased regulation and there was a big bun fight. I made a couple of posts on the ISN threads a month or two ago around this, that from memory have some links to some of this material if you can be bothered trawling though things.
