he also wanted to be the first guy to land without a parachute but then that british guy beat him to it with a bunch of cardboard boxes, lol

it was actually a young guy from lismore who started that whole base proximity stuff, a top guy and a quiet achiever.

sadly he was also it's first casualty, and after he died very few people thought it would ever become what it is now.

many of the early pioneers in base jumping were actually aussies, but they were also its most prolific casualties.

interestingly, aviation history is filled with mad aussies pushing the envelope, but getting no recognition for their achievements, while their vocal yank counterparts get all the glory for re-inventing the wheel.
