Any oil that doesn't come up the pipe under it's own pressure requires energy to get it out.
Clearly tar sands would need a lot of energy but so would all the others, to various degrees.
You're stating the bleeding obvious. Time to raise the standard.
Energy out for energy in is a critical metric and one the alternative energy guys studiously avoid because so much of what they propose is pretty poor with ethanol close to 1:1.
