I agree ethanol isn't brilliant, especially when it's production uses arable land or displaces forest.
"Isn't brilliant"! Is that your considered opinion? It is utter futility having an energy return of 1. We should have advanced beyond that but while we can't discard the obvious failures how do we have intelligent discussion of more debatable stuff?
And I see no urgent need for alternative energy. Let it find it's place on it's own merits.
Don't preach morals to me. I accuse greens of having no concern for the real poor in the world. They wish to saddle the whole world with expensive, unnecessary cures. What chance do they have in sub-Sahara of getting cheap power which, I believe, is the most important step in progress? None.
