"25% of women cited their main reason for returning to work after the birth of their child was to keep their job, or due to their employer's request."

I don't understand this statistic. I assume women want an open date for when they feel it's appropiate for them to rejoin the operational schedule of the company. Finding temporary staff to fill positions is awkward. Unless they're fully trained they are not an economic viability. Then there is the 'care factor,' finding a temporary employee who will commit, knowing they will move on.

"Organisations need to come to grips with the impact of family on workplaces. It's not a 'women's' issue; it's a societal issue," she says. "We need to bring about cultural change, so that flexible work arrangements, and flexible careers, are seen as the norm."

Male or female, I disagree strongly with this statement.
People need to realise the same way they don't want their precious family life turned upside down, neither do businesses.
