another 2 points:

1. This well has been drilling for about 3 weeks ; during this time the seismic observers, at the cavern and around the dome, will have been looking closely for any adverse results.

I think we can be sure that the drilling would have been halted by now, by the Authorities, if there had been any measurable affect on the sinkhole or dome.

2. The drilling is about 2 to 3 miles from any part of the actual salt dome (estimate)and the energy input at any time is trivial by comparison to dome/cavern activity. I anticipate that it may be measurable in the proximity including at the dome, but very minor indeed; almost background noise. Think about a drill bit and what it is doing, compared to activity and pressures etc at the cavern.

I think the local paper is in the business of beat ups for engaging local readership.
