I used your name because I read that you were thinking of quitting. I wasn't sure if you meant the market or HC, but often people leave both. I hope you don't mind being named!
There have been a number of posters who have lost everything. They probably have had a good run, and started putting more chips on the table. Then they took loans, to increase exposure.
If it all comes crashing down, and you loose your home and you are feeling so guilty because of the effect on your partner/family - it must be terrible. We have heard of some on here, but there must be many others who are too embarrassed or despiring and say nothing. There are probably some approaching that point now. Maybe HC could set up a "help line" thread manned by a volunteer or two???
So if it all falls apart I feel it would be tempting to walk away from HC too, otherwise painful memories would be stirred.
I've been pretty lucky. Mainly profitable for over ten years. Soon after starting investing I pulled off my "hard earned" cash and only played with profits. I stopped proper work at 37, over eight years ago. My portfolio isn't massive, about $180k - but I'm constantly using that money to live off. I also cream some away which gets locked up and can't be used.
I've never made it big as I am too risk averse, but I'm most hopeful now. I invest in biotechs, and never has a stock looked so good imho as neu is atm. I called it a 100 bagger at 1.3c, so a long way to go yet!
