If given early tamiflu reduced the death rate of h5n1. Relenza in IV form managed to save lives during h1n1 2009. Remember the people on their death beds who dramatically recovered after relenza?
It comes down to how it is used. If its early enough the they do have significant health benefits. Unfortunately many people who get to hospital due to flu did NOT take the medicines early enough. That is the problem.
The solution is to allow GP's to administer the drug when the patient first presents. Inavir is well placed to capture this market due to its once and done dosage.
Biota needs to push this. Daiichi Sanyo need to push.
