What has happened at the Napville salt dome is a disaster for all concerned and that includes the O & G industry which with rare exceptions has co-existed satisfactorily with and provided work for its`neighbours for many years.

There is a current agenda to establish a link between oil & gas wells drilled to date and the migration of hydrocarbons into the cap of the salt dome. It is likely that this migration has been a natural process but the key driver of recent upscale is almost certainly the breach of the wall of the salt dome at the cavern of the Texas Brine Oxy Geismar #3 well. Unfortunately the depth of this cavern is such that the collapse is likely to have compromised the integrity of the abutting Big Hum sands and thereby caused the uncontrolled and continuing releases that we are confronted with on a daily basis.

The misfortune with D & L #1 likely predisposed certain parties to apportion blame in a given direction but many of the environmental lobby would need no such excuse. While the D & L wells targeted the Big Hum sands the similarities look to end about there and apart from the obvious distance in locality from the cavern/sinkhole a non-fracced straight hole well - and particularly on the much deeper targets of Desiree - is no more likely to trigger such problems in the present than it was in the past.

This is IMO and as open to challenge as any other theory but for me there is a lot of barking up the wrong tree - much of it deliberate
