jp, my daughter went on a schoolies organised by Scripture Union. No alcohol, included three nights on Condor - jammy thing. She certainly wasn't interested in the "traditional" version, and neither (so far) are the boys.
No, as you say, in the UK we just sort of drifted away from high school. I was at Uni at 17 staying away from home, as was usual in the UK at the time, and we didn't have the drunkenness associated with Uni colleges in Brissy now either. For residential students, a concerted effort is made to get them as wasted as possible several times a term.
