The other reason, is the sickening thought that your tax dollars are helping elevate the buy price or cost of rental of the most basic need besides food and water, being a place to live, beyond the means and out of reach of those same taxpayers, to feather the nests of some baby boomers.

To compare this to the other basic need, it's like your tax dollars were being used to encourage investment in food production through giant tax breaks, consequently resulting in so much abnormal investment in food production, that the cost of food had to rise to pay for the elevated price of the infrastructure and associated food produced. The investors who had bought in early were therefore the beneficiaries of the taxpayer funded program, who are left paying ridiculous prices for food, to the point where they could no longer save money to invest in something similar themselves.

When a government interferes in a free market process, it usually goes belly up eventually.
