Please open your eyes and your mind Rollo. "Self interest" for Big Oil is continually finding NEW opportunities, not sitting on a depleting asset, which is what oil wells are. If they were happy to do that why would they be spending billions exploring for oil in a risky venture in an inhospitable land?
Soon the risk/reward ratio will favor new technologies over exploring for oil. Why would they deliberately lock themselves out of the room?
My OP was intended to show the costs and difficulties inherent in their business. Anyone able to think for themselves can come to their own conclusions. I've given mine.
