goodaye Jimi, yep it does make sense, but the japanese very rarely take the full ownership role, nor the role of Operator. i cannot think of one in Aus similar to this situation.
But the Chinese have been doing more and more lately.
Given the fact that Mitsui is the common denominator and J/V partner in both WCL and MPO, ( and don't forget it has the LNG marketing rights for meridian) both want LNG supply, a possibility could be for a joint bid for WCL?
A company jointly owned by both Mitsui and Petro in some %, could possibly bid? Possibly a bit messy? but Petro could then sell its MPO assets into that company.
the big positive with WCL, is that its almost a turn-key operation. they would buy an asset with all its existing mgt, infrastructure etc. It would really just be the ownership of the shares up the top of the tree which would change.
i guess anything is possible. hopefully we will learn next week?
