A horizontal well itself does not necessitate fracture stimulation. A well in a low permeability area may need this treatment to reach economical gas flow. A fracture will follow the path of least resistance, being the already cleated coal, thereby containing the fracture to within the coal seam. Thankfully the Northern Rivers geology is extremely favourable to the practice with the Kangaroo Creek Sandstone forming a consistently thick aquatard that is much denser than the already cleated coal.

This is where seismic testing and core holes are important. The same seismic testing that certain groups were opposing recently. The same coreholes that are being opposed now. It is an ultrasound of the earth, and enables the company to see where sufficient aquatards are in place to ensure that there is no risk of any connectivity between the seam and an aquifer. You don't do brain surgery without an understanding of what you are drilling into. You don't fracture stimulate without knowing your geography.

I hope for the sake of credibility that an SCU 'expert' is not trotted out in regard to fracture stimulation. I understand that they don't have a geology area as such.

I hope you enjoy your gas fired BBQ after your march today. Amazing what solar panels can produce these days.
