Hi nine lives. The statistics do tell a story of the massive problem in the USA as compared to other Western type democracies where statistics are kept.
I picked two countries two compare with the USA, namely Australia and the United Kingdom. The Australian comparison are statistics produced by UNCR about 10 years ago. The UK comparison is based on last years figures.
Australia recorded 1.8802 firearm homicides per 100,000 population
Whereas USA recorded 9.1 firearm homicides per 100,000 population
That is a staggering 380% higher rate in the USA.
For the UK I dont have figures broken down per 100,000 population, however the total figures tell the story.
In the UK in 2011 the number of firearm homicides was 58
In the USA in 2011 the number of firearm homicides was 8775
So even on a per capita basis based on the differing populations the USA has 30 times more firearm homicides than the UK.
I will let these stats do the talking but make one observation. I cannot understand how anyone can claim, as some do, that more guns per head wont translate into more gun homicides. Does the gun lobby have tentacles everywhere including blogger sites that discuss these issues??
